About Ali Zafar Qazi (OMD)

Architect Ali Zafar Qazi needs no introduction among the Community of Architects in Pakistan.
He has over 30 years of work experience as a Professional Architect. He is the co-founder and partner of the A/E design firm M/s. Office of Metropolitan Design (OMD) with its HQ in Lahore.
He got his Bachelor Degree in Architect from the prestigious National College of Arts Lahore in 1988 and was a recipient of the college merit scholarship throughout his degree course at NCA. Later he proceeded to the US for post-graduate studies. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the Punjab University.
His firm M/s. OMD has a multidimensional practice covering all locations in Pakistan and overseas projects in the US and UK and Canada. The firm has been involved in the design of various residential, industrial, and commercial, hospitality, retail, and office interior projects. It has been a recipient, winner, and position holder in a number of competition projects organized by Pakistan Council of Architects and Town Planners (PCATP). OMD has also received other local & international recognition for its professional work.
Architect Qazi is a current member of the Board of Directors of the Urban Unit, Government of Punjab and also heads the Project Design committee at the Urban Unit. Previously he was a member of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Naya Pakistan Housing Task Force and the Punjab Built heritage committee 2018-2019. He has also been a member of the Lahore Conservation Society and Punjab clean air forum and no of other local and international bodies and forums.
Architect Qazi holds the exclusive honor of being the Immediate Past President of the Institute of Architects Pakistan. (IAP) 2015-2018. He was unanimously elected as president of IAP in 2015. Earlier he was the Vice-Chairman IAP Lahore chapter in 2013-14 and Convener Iapex Lahore Chapter in 2014.
His leadership and acumen for advocacy of the profession has elevated the Institute and the awareness of the profession to greater heights in Pakistan. His contributions and participation have also been recognized internationally by all member organizations and forums the IAP is a part of, including SARCCAH, ARCASIA, UIA, and the CAA.
As a recognition for his hard work, commitment and dedication to the efforts for the institute, he was awarded the prestigious Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA) Presidents Medal in 2017.
Architect Qazi has also been on the faculty and jury of a No. of architectural institutes both locally and internationally. He is a member of the board of studies of various institutions and a member accreditation committee for the PCATP.
Architect Qazi sparked a new life into IAP with his inclusive, non-bias and gender balanced approach, in which all opportunities are reported and shared equally with the entire membership including the students and young architects alike, given an equal opportunity to all on merit. He diligently met and upheld all of the IAPs local and international commitments as president IAP during his tenure.
