This residence was conceived as an environmentally responsive house in the middle of DHA. The aim was to design and build a house which is user friendly, contextually relevant and sustainable. A concept where the residential building produces its own energy and grows its own food. The planning and relationship of spaces is adaptable to the needs of the user. The goal was to give user the ability to be able to enjoy the house by creating courts and terraces. Spatial delight has been the key theme in planning the house and selection of site. this is planned on the principle of bring the outside in. For a south facing house there is an enormous monocarps tree in front which provides shade during the day and acts as buffer from the main road noise while providing privacy. Northern façade faces a garden and lets air flow in the house. All windows open into green spaces without compromising the privacy of users. It is planned in a way to assist for natural cross ventilation and gain maximum daylight. This house is acclaimed as a sustainable and environmentally responsive house. planning and selection of materials contribute to the purpose passively. The are several active means integrated to run the house smoothly. Solar panels to produce electricity and provide backup in case of power shortage, solar thermal geysers to heat water, double glazed windows for insulation, noise reduction and reduce energy losses, roof gardens offer home grown vegetables and additional insulation, rain water harvesting tanks to reuse the rain water in plantation.

Design philosophy of the house revolves around incorporating breathable and natural materials. Promoting the local craftsmen by getting them involved in the process. Front façade has openable metal screens which is a contemporary take on the privacy screens. They enhance the experience of the space by creating a joyful play of lights and shadows while providing privacy. Wooden textured concrete is the main finish on external elevations. This is a maintenance free finish which ages beautifully with time. Wood veneer was incorporated in ceilings to conserve the wood and bring down the cost. This brings in the warmth in interior and exterior of the house. customized concrete pavers are put in the driveway which co relate with the geometrical patterns being used around the house. Pakistan Green Building Council PGBC has developed its own rating system based on Pakistan specific Green Building Guidelines. The first version of SEED-Sustainability in Energy and Environmental Development is published in Oct 2016 by PGBC. SEED is actually a sustainable and socially responsible thinking about how buildings and communities are planned, constructed, maintained and operated This allows to evaluate the sustainability of buildings based on our local criteria derived from latitude specific needs and requirements. There are four tiers in certification depending on the points achieved by a building. The certifications are silver, gold, platinum and titanium; last one being the highest point scored. This house has been able to achieve Platinum Certification from SEED by PGBC.
