The project reflects this as it opens itself up in terms of sophistication and layers. The deeper you explore, the more you appreciate the project for the thought that’s gone into designing, planning and execution. In short, it’s subtle, and sophisticated, all bundled to coexist. They wanted a home that would age well and could sustain itself through time as their lives evolved. They also wanted a home that was warm and welcoming. The plan was to build their home in two parts, to allow for the different twists and turns in life and also to handle various possible scenarios they may come to encounter.

They considered their routines, their preferences, their habits while designing the layout and architecture of the house. The first part of the project is the Annex, which houses the pool and two independent functional sections. It serves as the entertainment area, the guest room, and also houses their older son who by now has grown and wants his own space.

The main house is twice the area of the annex. The family believes in an open plan and has done away with separate dining and typical drawing room spaces. They want every part of their home to have a purpose. Straight lines and minimalism are key to the exterior, and the furnishings that adorn interior adds softer touches and warmer colors. The house has a soul of its own. Home automation plays a key role in transforming the personality to various moods. .The layout of the Annex was initially developed with Azfar’s childhood friend in Karachi – Azmat Rahim, who is an architect out of IIT. It took at least 3-4 years but once done, they both got stuck on the elevation. Azfar and Yasmeen then started a search for the one architect who could give them the kind of elevation they could fall in love with, and who could then also proceed with the development of the main house.

One of the big challenges had been to create two different yet connected parts. The annex and the main house are Ying and Yang and while different from the inside and outside, they complement each other not as twins but as the perfect couple. Much like the one that built them.
