In the Gojal valley flanked by the Karakoram Range, lies the unsuspecting side effect of a natural disaster; Attabad Lake. The eathquake of 2010 resulted in a landslide which in turn caused an obstruction in the flow of Hunza river, thereby creating this shimmering lake.
Historic villages are still intact, mostly including ‘core’ cluster housing with associated animal byres, stores, simple shops and mosques and other religious buildings. Up in the remoter side and high altitude valleys and summer pastures, individual farms and small clusters of houses tend to cling to the most precarious mountainsides. Geometry that is uncomplicated, paired with soft and warm earth tones paired with a muted geometry, the spaces are envisioned as strikingly contrasted yet welcoming.
