The client had a simple brief, to visualise a space that accommodated all members of their large family.
As this was the third time they were constructing at this location, so we wanted to incorporate the history & traditions into the design of the hut.
To adapt the space for use by two generations of the same family we worked with the mass sectionally. This created spaces that were visually connected with each other while having a distinct identity of their own. Allowing groups of people to interact in the space collectively or individually.
By creating large openings, adding decks & with the play of height, we were able to create uninterrupted connections between interior and exterior spaces.
This flexibility was an essential part of the design process for the space to be successful.
Views towards the sea open through wooden doors & windows reclaimed from the original hut, painted in a playful pops of colour. The neutral fair-faced finish with a sea green pigment sets it apart on the coastline. While at the same time the mute nature of the cement finish lets the sea speak of its own beauty.
