Modern 1 Kanal House By Mankani Architecture & Construction, Islamabad By Mankani Architecture & Construction

This was a particularly challenging project because it was a bifurcated plot and the by laws left us with a very tight footprint.
However, the client was very supportive and appreciating. We were given a lot of freedom in the design and were therefore able to experiment with innovative ideas, in planning as well as in detailing.
The house has a very linear and open plan. It is also very transparent.

This was partly because the client expected to entertain guests quite frequently so a strong interplay between the outside and inside was in order.
The other reason was that the house afforded great views of the Margalla Hills from the upper stories.
The circulation and service core is defined by a thick plane that acts as a datum and also as a backdrop for the main volume of the house. It is clad in green marble.

The main mass has a glass front, encased in a deep concrete frame, and divided up with slender concrete columns clad in wood.

The main feature of the house is an overflowing lily pond.

There is also a vertical garden at the back, which can be seen as you walk through the main door

The doors have a unique design composed of linear strips of wood that crisscross, creating little triangles that are set with Lapis Lazuli.

There is also a roof deck with a sauna.
