A 40 plus-year-old house, an enthusiastic client, and a need for transformation and updating it to modern trends and finishes; this is where it all started.
The project underwent 2 phases of design and construction. 1st Phase was to renovate and alter the existing living areas and utility spaces which started in mid-2016 and was completed in the first half of 2017. The idea was to make the house working areas manageable and functional and at the same time improve on the living areas. There was no requirement for a complete architectural overhaul.
Come Mid 2019, this is where the fun begins. 2nd Phase was to be eventful, as a Bridal Suite was to be added and a complete transformation, addition, and alteration was required. Dealing with an old structure, removing walls, adding rooms, changing the old-to-new whilst our Client was living under the same roof was a challenge. The design theme was industrial, brutalist, and modern. Mrs. Ayesha is a perfectionist and as a team, we decided to open up the already existing plan and merge it with the new construction.
The old introvert nature of the house and its spatial quality was transformed by adding large vista windows which framed the evergreens let in sunlight which was a key demand.
Like the 2 phases of design and construction, the project was divided into 2 wings, West Wing (1st Phase) and the East wing (2nd Phase). It was necessary to transform both wings and at the same time give respect to its 40-year-old history.
With a hands-on approach, we quickly moved from paper to actual site discussions and sampling. We defined the project in 3 words, grey, grey and black! A linear kitchen in Dekton (Cosentino) from Chughtais to the bespoke finishes of Bongio from Sardars; plastered floors and washed terrazzo courtyard; exposed bricks and metal girders etc, were some of the main features added in the project. A team led by Irfan Sarwar (MNA) made sure every team member including Syed Numan Anwer (MNA), M. Husnain (Civil Contractor), Faizan Akram (Plumbing Contractor), Nadeem (Carpenter) gave it their best.
