This is a small residence on an irregular plot in DHA Karachi. It was our very first residential project and we were lucky to have a client who put a lot of faith in us. We were therefore able to do a lot of spatial exploration and produce a one-of-a-kind house that remains unique in our portfolio even today.
In spite of its small size, the house has two courts – a small formal one at the front and a more informal one at the rear. There is a lot of openness and transparency in the house, with overlapping spaces, split levels and bold use of color. A stark red open-to-sky volume greets you at the entrance. As you enter through the pivot door, the formal, living, lounge and dining emerge as one contiguous space separated by floor levels and sliding doors. There is an uninterrupted view through the house and to the green spaces at the rear.
A concealed staircase takes you to the basement or the first floor. As you ascend, the stairwell is filled with natural light from above that washes down bright painted walls and ceilings.
