This is a house I designed for my parents and family. There is a grassy green park at its rear side. Its orientation and location guided the basic concept of open plan spaces with windows at the rear as well as at the front. The design allows the natural light to flood in, welcomes in breeze due to cross ventilation and captures the view of the park. It is a two storey house with three bedrooms, with a double height ceiling living room and open green spaces followed by verandahs at both front and back sides. This design not only exaggerates the connection of the interior spaces with natural surroundings but also among the interior spaces themselves. The arrangement enhances its smooth and gradual flow from covered spaces to semi-covered and then to open spaces.

The galleries on the first floor level look below into the living area at the ground floor level. This gives a sense of connection and unity of the two floors, and one can celebrate this arrangement with a sense of openness. The round skylight above the study nook designed at the split level of the main staircase, dramatically highlights the fair-faced brick walls with direct sunlight. This house is a hybrid structure of fair-faced brick walls, concrete ceilings, plastered concrete columns and brick & concrete cement floors. This hybrid structure gives a raw and industrial look yet it creates a very warm and humble feel. The exterior and interior celebrate the house’s very own soul through the harmony of material used in this structure.
