An Architect’s own house is often self-expression of one’s own design ethos and ideas. This house was envisioned as an urban retreat, where the indoors and outdoors become one. The focal point of this house is the courtyard garden, the unbuilt space which is wrapped by the built areas thus offering a private outdoor space.

This garden acts like a funnel for the west winds in an otherwise east facing house. The idea was for all indoor spaces to receive maximum natural light and ventilation.

The main entrance door opens into a sky-lit staircase foyer which splits up into the dining area and the study in the basement. The juxtaposition of white Diagnos marble with its grey veins with tan stained oak wood is meant to add warmth to space while lending a contemporary feel to the interiors.

The entertainment area on the ground floor opens into a double-height patio clad in glass supported on iron beams. This has been screened by the ebony-stained wood screen which takes the eye upward while acting as a visual barrier.

Large iron and glass pivot doors allow this space to spill out into the garden making it the perfect in-between space which lends to both the interiors and the exteriors.
