Overview

The house is designed to reflect within, as a response to its inhabitant’s requirement of privacy; therefore apart from being a design element these louvers lighten the mass by fragmenting the volume through voids. The linear plot is clearly zoned out into public and private spaces separated by the courtyard which acts as a buffer in between. With pedestrian and parking gates separated out on opposite corners of the front, pedestrian entrance is punched in the boundary wall plane making one enter sideways welcomed by the landscape ahead. Right in the centre, the entrance foyer is set to be accessible by family while a staircase is provided in the corner to take the guests down in the basement through a semi-open courtyard which houses the entertainment area. This court is the pivot of the house keeping it well-lit and airy along with creating internal views for the spaces overlooking it. This rectangular buffer is detailed out to be open on both sides but covered in between letting the wind channelize through the entire space while adding to the covered area for the family. The layout is kept open allowing the utilization of the space to be flexible; functional separation is attained through furniture arrangement. The scale of the basement is worth mentioning as the height is kept double making it ceremonial and suitable for hosting large gatherings. The ground floor houses the ancillary functions and a guest bedroom, while the bedrooms for the family are arranged on the first floor. A small terrace is attached with the master bedroom on one side while a glass wall on the other, making the layout sandwiched between light and views. One of the children’s bedrooms has a glass box along the length of the wall, protruding out overlooking the courtyard. This hovered box with its base used as ledge to sit or lie is provided as a creative answer to the requirement of a comfy reading corner. A formal study room is also provided with a personalized terrace as a possible extension of the space to suit the mood of its users.
