Overview

The residence is designed around a pool sunk into the basement with a 20 ft lounge cantilevering above, in order to maintain privacy and enclosure while opening up views from the interior. The house is an interesting play of masses , cantilevers and breathtaking views . It provides amazing views from the house towards the sunken pool and a landscape area .

The governing principal behind the design of the home was to showcase the swimming pool from various areas within the home, while simultaneously providing shelter from adjoining properties. For this reason it was chosen to lower the swimming pool into the basement level, and raise the floating lounge into a mid-level between the ground and first floor; effectively sheltering the pool from neighboring homes, and opening up views into the pool area from the ground floor level. Through this strategic massing a sheltered introverted space in created, without having to sacrificing spatial openness and continuity between interior and exterior spaces. Following the same notion of privacy, the massing towards the front of the house has been limited to the ground level so as to prevent views from the street into bedrooms located on the second floor, towards the front of the house. Upon entering the property, one walks by the front garden and through a shaded corridor, passing a small fountain and other landscaping elements to reach the main door. A double height foyer lies immediately after, which connects to the drawing, dinning, and powder room. Whereas the drawing room offers a view of the front garden, the adjoin dining room looks into the basement pool area, with a balcony looking out over the sunken court. A corridor then separates these public spaces from a lounge zoned towards the back of the house, again looking out over the sunken court from across the dining room.
