Connecting interiors with exteriors: Simple Strategies

Connecting interiors with exteriors: Simple Strategies

We enjoy being surrounded by nature and feeling its presence around us and to make a strong connection between natural and built spaces, is to make a linkage between indoor-outdoor spaces. Forging a strong connection between indoors and outdoors in houses can make homes more liveable and it will change the experience of everyday life at home. Different materials like stone, wood, and glass with various methods have been introduced to dissolve the boundary between interiors and exteriors, which allows residents to experience the full potential of living close to nature. As in ‘modernism’ architects have practised and introduced features to create a calming connection to the exterior, for example, featuring spacious terraces, walls of glass, and water features etc. Let’s have a look at some examples to achieve a connection between exteriors and interiors in our living spaces

Residence design by AEDL (AG Architectural Engineering and Design Limited ), Lahore-Pakistan

Built in Lahore, the architecture of AJ house follows a design vocabulary rooted in local traditions of using red brick and white marble. The house, designed for an architect, functions on three basic levels: the driveway, the house and garden, and the rooftop. It is consciously positioned as a variation on existing houses in the city, where regional elements like courtyards, Jalis or brick screens and purdah walls are used in tandem with more contemporary impulses, such as the large openings and an open floor plan.
10 Marla Residential Project design by Deztopia, Islamabad-Pakistan

10 Marla Residential Project design by Deztopia, Islamabad-Pakistan

The Residential design for a spread of 10 Marla was proposed in a way to give the space an open experience. By analyzing the requirements and lifestyle of the client, we thought to maximize the open living space (living room) and create an entrance lobby which will direct the user to this spacious lounge.

The high point about the site was that there was a retaining wall (20 ft. high) on the backside, which gave us the opportunity to have a full glass at the backside, without compromising the privacy of the client.

Plus it allows only the right amount of sunlight inside. This adopted space arrangement, filled the desired client’s functional plan on a small surface while keeping the openness of the lounge plus the modern interior, linear lobby and large windows which merges the outside with inside.

Final handover and final payment for your house

Final handover and final payment for your house

The final stages of the building project may appear difficult just because of the inspection process and also you are so near to the end. It is essential that you don’t get impatient through the final handover because it’s your last opportunity to target any work that is not completed yet, or anything you think hasn’t been delivered according to what is been agreed upon in your contract.

The final handover may be the last phase of any building project. It is the stage where:

• You take possession of the house.
• You opt for the final payment towards the builder

The builder will normally contact you a week before the handover date to arrange access for a pre-handover inspection known as final inspection. When you’re ready for the final handover stage, you should have:

A certificate of occupancy issued by the building surveyor.

• Done with the pre-handover inspection
• Had work done to resolve any problems from your final inspection, as agreed in your notice of completion.

On handover day you will get:

• Your occupancy certificate from a building surveyor
• Warranty and instruction certification for appliances and fixtures
• Documentation from service providers (e.g. for supply of electricity, water, sewerage, gas etc.)

Building inspections fro new houses

Building inspections fro new houses

When people refer to term building inspections, they are often talking about an inspection procedure carried out at various design stages associated with construction to make certain that everything’s being done correctly, according to all the relevant building codes and design standards.

Building a home isn’t a small task because there is a lot that could go wrong if small things are neglected at any stage of the construction, especially in early stages. Over months or years, flaws that will have been overlooked as insignificant during construction can provoke enormous damage on a house. Even though your builder’s persistent and careful, there is always a chance that something critical is certainly not right. For that reason, independent building inspections are an essential element of constructing a secure, and structurally sound house.
