This Residence in Green Acres was initially designed and thought of as a guest house to be used by artists and like-minded individuals who could potentially use the spaces for work, entertainment, or living purposes. This house can be described as ‘unconventional’ in terms of its construction techniques, space planning/layout ideas, and how it responds to climatic factors and the environment. There is a very identifiable evolution of design that took place within Green Acres, and it ultimately culminated and manifested itself in this house. Certain design ideas, layout similarities, aesthetics, and construction details are all shared by this ‘type’ of house.
The house was built keeping the interconnectivity of spaces in mind and was built on a ‘split-level’ concept. Consequently, the basement rooms are very well lit and you can view the exterior landscape (on an eye-level). The construction of the floor slab is radical for Lahore and is not usually seen in residences. The floor is not constructed as a conventional concrete slab. The upper floors are constructed using I-section steel girders upon which you have nothing else but a solid wooden plank flooring. It is a solution which can save you a lot of cement, steel re-enforcement, time (shuttering, pouring, curing), money, and It is also aesthetically pleasing. It also does not require further amendments such as false ceilings either.
