Built in Lahore, the architecture of AJ house follows a design vocabulary rooted in local traditions of using red brick and white marble. The house, designed for an architect, functions on three basic levels: the driveway, the house and garden, and the rooftop. It is consciously positioned as a variation on existing houses in the city, where regional elements like courtyards, Jalis or brick screens and purdah walls are used in tandem with more contemporary impulses, such as the large openings and an open floor plan.

10 Marla Residential Project design by Deztopia, Islamabad-Pakistan

The Residential design for a spread of 10 Marla was proposed in a way to give the space an open experience. By analyzing the requirements and lifestyle of the client, we thought to maximize the open living space (living room) and create an entrance lobby which will direct the user to this spacious lounge.

The high point about the site was that there was a retaining wall (20 ft. high) on the backside, which gave us the opportunity to have a full glass at the backside, without compromising the privacy of the client.

Plus it allows only the right amount of sunlight inside. This adopted space arrangement, filled the desired client’s functional plan on a small surface while keeping the openness of the lounge plus the modern interior, linear lobby and large windows which merges the outside with inside.

Traditional Style Residence by Kamil Khan Mumtaz Architects, Model Town Lahore – Pakistan

This residential design is a continuation of ideas first developed in 1984-85. It represents stage of transition from modernity to tradition. This transition has been portrayed through numerous architectural elements including unfolding series of gardens connected through various building blocks serving as Drawing, Dining and Bedrooms. The sense of place is further enhanced through patios and courtyards having walled gardens. Transitional spaces are linked with buffer areas acting as welcoming elements introducing green areas.
